What to Do When Your Furnace Stops Working

This is Kyle with Rocketman Plumbing. Today, we’re going to talk a little bit about what happens if your furnace goes out in the middle of the night when it’s cold.

Troubleshooting Tips if Your Furnace Goes Out

There are a few things that you can check. If the furnace just quits working completely, you would want to check to make sure it’s getting electricity. Sometimes a breaker gets switched and all you have to do is flip a breaker to make sure it comes back on.

If that doesn’t do it, you want to check the doors. There’s a little safety switch on the bottom door of a forced-air furnace, you want to make sure that door didn’t possibly pop open. That makes it stop running.

But bottom line, your furnace quits working and it’s cold, what do you do? Well, it’s good to be prepared for something like this beforehand.

Always Have a Backup Plan

One thing that’s good to have is one or two electric space heaters. The best space heaters are oil-filled, where it heats up the oil and then it just radiates heat. They keep one room pretty cozy.

Another thing you can do if that’s not the case and you don’t have one, if you have a gas stove, you can turn on that gas stove and you can generate heat that way.

It’s also good to have an electric blanket on hand once in a while for those really cold nights. But anyway, those are my tips.

How Rocketman Can Help When Your Furnace Breaks

The other tip is, we offer 24-hour emergency plumbing services and you can hire one of our professional plumbers by calling us at (505) 560-3424. We can go out anytime, day or night, on weekends, holidays don’t matter. We’ll go out and see if we can get that furnace up and running for you.

The one problem is, if it happens late at night or on a weekend, sometimes we can’t get the parts. But if you call, you can let us know, and we could actually bring a space heater if you don’t have one. So if we don’t get it running, we’ll at least get you some heat until we do get it running. This is Kyle at Rocketman Plumbing. Have a great, warm winter. Thank you.
